Like many churches on Delmarva, Gethsemane has a history that goes back quite a ways. The first church was erected in 1835

and later replaced in 1851, 1872, and 1905. On May 11, 1998, in the early hours of the morning, the 93 year old church was completely destroyed by a fire. The congregation then worshiped across the street at their 3 month old fellowship hall; worship would remain here until the current church building opened on March 11, 2001.

Members of this church have worked together in many mission opportunities over the years. Some of these include mission work on Native American Reservations, annual youth mission trips, helping flood victims repair their homes, and partnering with a local elementary school in the Seaford school district to serve and show love to the faculty and students. 

Over the years, there have been 10 people who left the church to answer God's call on their lives to become pastors. In April of 2024 Gethsemane Church recognized the ordination of Jordan Forston who had been a member of the church for 13 years and served as youth pastor. Pastor Jordan is not pastoring the church of Gethsemane. This says a lot about our church. The story of Gethsemane continues each and every day and we are excited to partner with God in being a part of it.
